Science fiction and space stuff aren’t that far removed from everyday things. Sounds odd? Eric Geusz, also known as Spacegooose on his social media and art platforms, proves it by using regular items like kitchen utensils or office supplies as an inspiration for his spaceship designs.
The artist shines a new light on how simple objects can be perceived. For most, a bottle opener is just that, but to him, it’s a framework around which he can build a slick, wicked-looking spaceship. Eric draws them in a way that is awe-inspiring and the images look completely professional, even though it’s just a hobby for this daytime software engineer.
It will come as no surprise that the guy is a huge science fiction and fantasy fan. Seeing Star Wars when he was a kid is what drew him in into this world (or should we say, drew him out of our world?), and it’s the works of Moebius, Ralph Mcquarrie, Chris Foss, Syd Mead, and others that made him stay.

The artist compares spaceships to dragons, as you’re free to make them in any shape that you want and stress any feature that you think is important. Even though dragons and spaceships are rather different creatures, they both use imagination. The hardest part for him is making up an original design that is still similar to an item that he drew inspiration from, since there are many good designs, but very few unique ones.#2

Eric started his spaceship-building career from simple blocks. Quite literally. He built them using LEGO ever since he saw Star Wars. He often finds himself daydreaming and thinking of ways to turn the surrounding world into his own. He’s no stranger to video games, which fuel his passion for otherworldly designs: Mass Effect, Homeworld, and Halo are among his favorite ones.#4

This isn’t the first time that this California-based artist has been featured on Bored Panda. You can see his post from one and a half years ago here. His space-themed Instagram is booming with followers and as of this moment, he has almost 200k followers. Support the artist by helping him reach 200k followers. It’s a good time to do it, as we assume his follower count is going to skyrocket and leave orbit, so be one of those cool kids who has been following him before that.#6

Everyday objects paradoxically inspire many things, not just spaceship designs. Dull objects can turn into anything that your imagination desires. Here are a few examples that we have at our disposal. Just recently, there was a post about an architect who created sketches of buildings using everyday objects. Here’s a post about how an artist draws cartoon characters based on simple items, animals, and other things. Or if you’re up to going from a macro level to micro, here’s a post about how everyday items can be seen from a different close-up perspective.#8
